UniBank Supports Whitin Community Center’s Youth Outreach Program

The Whitin Community Center received a corporate grant of $15,000 from UniBank to support the operational expenses of the Youth Outreach Program including its Saturday Afternoon Program, the Rockdale Youth Center, the Summer Community Youth Theater Program, the new BOOST program, and the Mentoring Partnership.

The Whitin Community Center, a regional recreational non-profit organization, initiated the Youth Outreach Program in 1996 in an effort to open the door to all children, independent of fee or membership, to enjoy the benefits of a weekly recreational program on Saturdays. That program has been expanded in the years since to include a Summer Youth Theater Program and an after school Youth Center in the Rockdale section of Northbridge, MA. In July 2007, the Northbridge Mentoring Partnership was absorbed into the Youth Outreach Program. In the Fall of 2007, the BOOST program, a free program to improve health and wellness for at-risk youth ages 12-17, was added to the Youth Outreach offerings. The goals of the Youth Outreach Program are to encourage children, ages 5-17, from all socio-economic backgrounds to play together, to develop friendships, to build self-worth, to develop a sense of fair play, team spirit and cooperation in a safe and supervised environment.

According to Kenneth J. Redding, UniBank President & CEO, “We are pleased to support these programs that play an important role in the future of our community.”

WCC Chief Executive Officer Gary R. Wood reported, “We are proud of our charitable youth programs that provide opportunities for young people to spend their time productively while enjoying recreational and social activities that build team spirit, cooperation, and friendships. The results of engaging young people in supervised activities provided under the influence of positive adult role models has a great impact on the community at large. School administrators report to us that in the case of a majority of participants, grades have improved, attendance at school is regular and behavioral issues have decreased. UniBank has been a tremendous supporter of our work with these children.”
