Join the WCC in Honoring Charlie Thompson!
The Whitin Community Center (WCC) invites you to join them in honoring a great community leader, Charlie Thompson, as he retires as its Executive Director after 34 years. On Friday, November 16, 2007, at 6:30 pm, Charlie will be honored with a special Retirement Celebration at the Myriad Ballroom in Mendon, MA. The cost of the tickets is $35.00 each and includes dinner and dessert. A cash bar will be available. Tickets can be purchased at the Whitin Community Center until November 9th.
It is Charlie’s wish that this also serve as a fundraising event to refurbish the original pool at the WCC to be renamed the Charles E. Thompson Pool when the renovations are complete. This pool is in dire need of repair and it is not surprising to those of us who have known Charlie over the years that he would prefer donations to this cause rather than gifts purchased for him. In recognition of Charlie’s commitment to the mission of the Whitin Community Center, we also wish to designate 5% of all money raised for this event to scholarships for swimming lessons for children who cannot afford them.
To make a donation in Charlie’s honor or for an opportunity to send a farewell wish or tell a memorable story about Charlie, please contact Heather Elster at the Whitin Community Center at 508-234-8184 x312.
We also have some special surprises planned for the evening for Charlie but we need your help! We need pictures of Charlie's life in and out of the Gym. If anyone has a good photo of Charlie at anytime in his life (school, scouts, church, and other interests) that you would allow us to copy and return to you, please call Alison Specter at 508-234-6468 or email specters@charter.net with a digital version of your photo. All persons whose photos are used will receive recognition.
While Charlie will be missed by all at the WCC, we wish him well in his retirement. Please join us in honoring his years of dedication to the WCC by giving him the type of send-off that will have so much meaning to him.
