Uxbridge Hannaford Supermarket Donates $2,000 to Whitin Community Center’s Send a Child To Summer Camp Program

Charles Thompson, Whitin Community Center (WCC) Director, announced that the Uxbridge Hannaford Supermarket has given $2,000 to its “Send a Child To Summer Camp” program through a promotion with WSRS held in March and April.

The Whitin Community Center’s "Send A Child To Summer Camp" program offers a limited number of scholarships for children from struggling families with low to moderate family incomes who wish to attend a week of summer camp. WCC offers weekly half-day and full-day sports and activity camps for children aged 4-13 from June 18th through August 24th.

WSRS teamed up with the Uxbridge Hannaford to promote Hannaford Supermarkets nutrition navigation system-Guiding Stars and to donate money to a charitable organization in the Blackstone Valley. The Whitin Community Center was honored to be selected as that organization.

Guiding Star cards were given to interested customers who came to the store in March. Each Guiding Star card listed a variety of foods that get nutritional stars at Hannaford. Hannaford Supermarkets donated $.50 cents to the Whitin Community Center for every "star" card given away at the store. DJs on WSRS then asked for the product of the day and the caller that correctly identified the correct number of stars associated with that product won a $100 gift card, plus $100 in their name to the charity. The winners were: Nancy Tibbets of Uxbridge, MA, Faye Storey of Uxbridge, MA, Jeff Deiana of Whitinsville, MA, Judy Lola of North Grafton, MA, Michelle Spinard of Woodstock, CT, Gary Rich of Worcester, MA, Jackie Ruanne of Uxbridge, MA, Roberta Carpenter of Millville, MA, Paul Busa of Uxbridge, MA, and
Linda LaPorte of Uxbridge, MA.
Molly Tarleton, Regional Community Relations Specialist for Hannaford Supermarkets, states, “Hannaford has a strong tradition of supporting many deserving and worthwhile community organizations. We are grateful that our associates and our customers recognize the importance of our involvement in these activities, and we are proud to play an active role in strengthening the communities we serve.”
