Whitinsville Blue Dolphins Shine at the 12 & Under New England Age Group Championships
The Whitinsville Blue Dolphins (WBD) swim team participated in the 12 & Under New England Age Group Championships hosted by the RAMS Swimming Club on February 22, 2007 at the Tootell Aquatic Center at the University of Rhode Island in Kingstown, RI. The Tootell Aquatic Center Competition Pool is an 8-lane, 25-yard pool with seven-foot-wide lanes and non-turbulent lane lines.
All contestants were all 2007 USA Swimming registered athletes. Medals were awarded for the first 8 places in individual events and first 3 places in relays. Ribbons were given for 9-16 places individual, and 4-8 relays. Highlights from the day included:
· Patrick Reimonn, age 12 from Hopkinton, and Thomas Hancox, age 12 from Milford, came out two days to help fill the slots for the 11-12 boys relay teams swimming personal best times and earning 38 points for WBD. · Kyle Durand, age 11 from Grafton, earned 26 points for WBD. He placed 8th overall in the 1650-mile swim and was a medal winner. In the 100 butterfly, he placed 5th in the consolation heat dropping another second off his best time 1:05.24. · Kevin Bradley, age 12 from Milford, earned 12 points for WBD and his top winning events were the 50 Free with 26.57. He placed 7th as a medal winner and dropped another second and place from the consolation heat. He had the fastest time on WBD for his age in this event. He finished the 100 Free in 58.81 and dropped another second placing 14th from the consolation heat. · Kailey Dowd, age 12 from Mendon, had her best swims in the 200 breaststroke with 2:53.04 and the 50 fly in 33.63. Whitinsville Blue Dolphins Head Coach, Denise Foster, remarked, “All these swimmers put a lot of hard work and time into their swimming careers and it sure shows at these Championship Meets.”
Whitinsville Blue Dolphins (WBD) is a competitive regional swim team with membership in the United States Swimming Association and the Worcester County Swim League. In existence for over 70 years at the Whitin Community Center, the team accepts swimmers ages 6-18 who have completed Level IV Red Cross Swimming Lessons or have comparable ability. WBD's program encourages fitness, goal-setting, hard work, and respect for self and others in a fun and safe environment. Our coaches are experienced certified professionals who enjoy teaching, encouraging, and challenging young people to achieve greatness in swimming and life.
The Whitin Community Center is a private, non-profit, community-based organization serving the Blackstone Valley since 1922.
