The Whitin Community Center is proud to announce that our Director of Marketing and Development, Heather Elster, has been selected by The Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women as the Sutton community’s Unsung Heroine of 2008.

The Whitin Community Center is proud to announce the graduates from the American Red Cross Swimming Program from its Winter session. The American Red Cross Learn to Swim program is a comprehensive training program that teaches people to swim and to help them be safe in, on or around water. The program includes swimming courses for all age groups and abilities via six levels of instruction.

Blackstone Valley families are invited to attend the Annual Blackstone Valley Kids Fair on Saturday, April 5th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Whitin Community Center, 60 Main Street in Whitinsville. Everyone is welcome and the admission is FREE.

The Whitin Community Center received a corporate grant of $15,000 from UniBank to support the operational expenses of the Youth Outreach Program including its Saturday Afternoon Program, the Rockdale Youth Center, the Summer Community Youth Theater Program, the new BOOST program, and the Mentoring Partnership.

A FREE Adolescent Community Fair will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 from 11:00am – 2:00pm at the Whitin Community Center. Adolescents and their caregivers are encouraged to attend to get information that is important to them and their future. The fair is sponsored by Wayside Family Networks, the Department of Social Services, and the Whitin Community Center.

“My mom’s in jail, my dad’s in jail and my brother’s in jail. I live with my grandmother but we don’t get along all that well, so I spend most nights at friend’s houses. I’ll probably go to jail when I’m old enough. I’ve already been in lock up twice.”

Charles Thompson, Whitin Community Center (WCC) Director, announced that the Uxbridge Hannaford Supermarket is partnering with the WCC Rockdale Youth Center to support its Survival Cooking program. A grant of $1,000 will supply food for the activities at the Rockdale Youth Center. Uxbridge store manager, Mike Richardson, and his staff will also come to the Youth Center to teach children about nutrition, food safety, and the variety of food that exists in each department of Hannaford Supermarkets.
