In recognition of February's Teen Dating Safety Month, the Whitin Community Center and Rockdale Youth Center (RYC) are pleased to partner with New Hope, Inc. to host a presentation for youth about "Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships" on February 27th, at 6:30pm at the RYC. Registration is required. Register with Monique Boucher-Adams at Monique.Boucher@OurGym.org.
New Hope is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works throughout Massachusetts to build an anti-violence movement whose mission is to end sexual and domestic violence. They seek to create communities free from violence, where individuals and families are able to achieve their full human potential.
Healthy Relationships/Teen Dating Violence This workshop was developed for middle school and high school students, and it invites them to dive deeper into understanding teen dating, recognizing their own values, and engaging in healthy, safe relationships. The real-life scenarios discussed in class will provide teens with the tools to communicate their needs and wants effectively, recognize red flags for abuse, prevent breakup violence, and support friends who might be in unhealthy relationships.

FREE Presentation On Reducing Stress Naturally by the Savvy Women's Alliance!

Join us April 28th from 2:00pm-4:00pm in the WCC's Conference Room!
Stress less and thrive: shifting the 2 surprising factors keeping you emotional stuck. Are you frustrated with constantly feeling that you can't get out of patterns of negative emotions like overwhelm, worry, anxiousness, fear, etc.? Do you struggle with feelings of irrigation, anger, insecurity, or self doubt?
While it's true that in order create the life you want, shifting your negative thinking and emotions is extremely important, there's more to the story than meets the eye. What most people don't realize is that negative thinking and negative emotional patterns, together, are just one of the contributing factors to their stress. It's the other two factors that are the real contributors to their stress, and that are causing these thoughts and emotions to become hardwired into the subconscious. Without addressing these other two factors, shifting your negative thoughts and emotional patterns is like paddling upstream against a strong current.
The good news is you can shift all three contributing factors so that you can become the most confident, fulfilled, healthy and successful version of yourself. In this workshop we'll get you started.

Distracted Driving

April 1st-April 30th
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. According to the National Safety Council, every day, at least 9 Americans die and 100 are injured in distracted driving crashes. Cell phones, dashboard touch-screens, voice commands and other in-vehicle technologies pose a threat to our safety. The consequences of those distractions are not worth the convenience they offer. Ignore the distractions and just drive to keep us all safer on the roads.
The Office of the Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early has shared on their website important PSAs regarding the dangers and impacts of distracted driving, and one of the PSAs is from DECA students at our own Northbridge High School.

Alcohol Awareness Month

April 1- April 30
Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow: Founded and sponsored by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (now Facing Addiction with NCADD), Alcohol Awareness Month was established in 1987 to help reduce the stigma so often associated with alcohol addiction by encouraging communities to reach out to the American public each April with information about alcohol, alcohol addiction, and recovery. Alcohol addiction is a chronic, progressive disease, genetically predisposed and fatal if untreated. However, people can and do recover. In fact, it is estimated that as many as 20 million individuals and family members are living lives in recovery from alcohol use!
FREE Local Recovery Support at Family Continuity Program: Drop-In meetings every Wednesday, 6:00pm-7:30 pm, 76 Church Street Suite 301, Whitinsville, MA

Competition Pool Shutdown

April 22 - May 12
The Competition Pool will be closed from April 22 - May 12 for scheduled maintenance. During this time, multiple contractors will be working simultaneously to install a new HVAC System to improve air quality and repair the damage to the Competition Pool roof and facade that incurred during a previous storm. Additionally, we will also be draining the pool, cleaning, and painting as part of our yearly maintenance so as to not close the pool for a second time during the Summer. We must close for the safety of the workers, staff and our customers.
We appreciate your understanding and value your continued support of the Whitin Community Center. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and have identified and secured other alternative options for your swimming needs. Please view the PDF below or contact the Member Services Desk or visit our website for details and accommodations.
