Whitin Community
Center has many gymnasium activities appropriate for
school aged children scheduled throughout the week that encourage group
participation and good clean fun. Children can join in Open
Recreation or one of various floor programs for their age
group. Instructional programs are offered seasonally
to help youngsters improve their skills. Special attention is given to
young adults in the 14-15 age group who are interested in
strength and endurance training.
In addition to several open recreational swim times, all levels of Red Cross Swim programs are available for children learning to swim as well as those seeking to improve their stroke and proficiency. And anyone who has completed Level III classes may go on to join the Blue Dolphins Swim Team. Classes are also offered for babies and tots along with their parents.
Summer Camp programs run throughout the summer and include a wide variety of fun and instructional activities for children each day. In addition to daily sports and activities, a travel week scheduled in mid-summer offers kids the opportunity to take day trips to exciting local places.
The Youth Outreach Program provides group activities for kids 8 -13 at the Whitin Community Center as well as the Rockdale Youth Center . From games to movies to arts & crafts projects or a theater production children can have a lot of fun in an environment that encourages sportsmanship, courtesy and respect.
